Since my work schedule has changed a bit I have thought about how much time I have when I get home from work. I work a 34/44 schedule so every other Monday I have the day off. Mondays are going to be one of my arts & crafts days. I have many projects I am currently working on. I am building a humpback whale model that I plan on suspending from the ceiling. I am also working on some beaded embroidery of a bee, and starting a cross-stitch project that I plan on gifting to my friend for their birthday.
Had a rough day at work and dealing with side effects from prescribed medication. Came home, changed out of my clothes and decided to play video games on the playstation. I'm playing through Life is Strange: True Colors and even playing for just an hour helped me decompress from the day. Other than that- doing some chores, cuddling with the cats and having dinner with the spouse. Instead of scheduling some sort of self-care activity on specific days during my work week (unlike the weekends), I plan on keeping it more flexible. That way I am not "forcing" relaxation but choosing something that will help me leave work at the door.
One of the activities I had to complete for a class last quarter invovled nature journaling. I was resistant to the activity initially. I usually have a goal or destination in mind in anything I do and coupled with impatience, I liked to get whatever i'm doing done as quickly as possible. Nature journaling really forced me to slow down and observe my surroundings. It also did wonders for my mental and physical health. I want to have a day in which my primary goal involves being outside and journaling my surroundings. This is a nice cap on a weekend before the work week starts.
Saturdays are reserved for sleeping in, yummy breakfasts, creating art, and reading. Today I had a chocolate muffin and coffee with lavender syrup and plan on making banana nutella crepes for dinner. I have a plaster humpback whale project i'm working on currently that I would like to get close to finished today. I am also working on The Langoliers by Stephen King and I Know What I Saw by Linda S. Godfrey. I might head out to the craft store for yarn but undecided.
Tonight I am going to get the living room nice and clean and watch Immaculate. I really enjoyed Sweeney in another horror movie, Nocturne so have been wanting to watch Immaculate since I watched the trailer. I'm also going to make nachos with that yummy canned cheese, have pop corn, and junior mints on deck. Watching movies is one of my favorite activities but I want to work towards limiting my screen time; Especially since I work and go to school full time. I'm taking the spring quarter off from school to learn how to balance self-care and manage vestibular migraines (which I developed last summer).
